Andrés Duany & DPZ Visit Hampstead

December 05, 2008

The Hampstead Institute Held An Evening with Andrés Duany

Renowned Town Planner and co-founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism, Mr. Duany visited Hampstead and gave the inaugural presentation of the Hampstead Institute's Speaker Series on November 22nd.

Mr. Duany spoke of the important role that cohesive town building now plays in a world faced with global warming, peak oil, and the financial difficulties we see around us.

He cited Hampstead as a model of sustainable building, with its embedded working farm, offices & places of work, and residential options which are varied by price & appeal to all ages.

"Saturday was the first time we visited the site under construction and we were very impressed by the beauty and quality of workmanship," said Maria Mercer. "Many details & carefully thought-through town design were complimented by the elegant architecture of Gary Justiss."

A Town Square Party followed the speech featuring live music and cocktail reception.

The Hampstead Institute extends its thanks to Andrés Duany, Maria Mercer, the entire DPZ team, and Ken Groves for their contribution to Hampstead and commitment to long-term planning.
